Spring in the City

I absolutely love springtime in Seattle. Pike Place and the farmers markets start overflowing with tulips in every color and shape (lily tulips, peony tulips, double bloom tulips… I could go on and on) and the produce pours in from the local farms and island communities. As Seattleites emerge en masse to enjoy even the slightest hint of sunshine (dressed in shorts and flip flops for a balmy 60 degree day), it seems that summer is just around the corner…

Happy Mother’s Day

Cam & Alex – April 25th, San Juan Island

Only these two could plan an outdoor wedding in the Pacific Northwest in April and be guaranteed sunshine! What a beautiful weekend filled with laughter, good food, canoe trips, gorgeous flowers, great friends and wood nymphs. A perfect (and perfectly unique wedding).

Cam is an island girl at heart and a creative genius. She spent weeks searching out vintage tea cups and cake stands and put together all the reception flowers herself. She cut newspaper circles and hung strands of them around the Lodge’s Great Room which together with the white lace tablecloths gave the room a decidedly Anthropologie vibe. I was honored to make her bouquet and boutonnieres which included the same silk roses that she embroidered on her dress (worn with cowboy boots of course!) The boutonnieres were fashioned from hellebore from my garden and the bouquet was filled with roses, mini callas, freesia and hellebore and surrounded with honeysuckle vine from the resort.

The ceremony included a recitation of the recipe for Pasta Carbonara (the first date and meal made for the bride by the groom) and the bride was rowed down the aisle by her father. The favors were skipping stones for the lake packaged in moss and topped off with local lavender. Truly a unique and fabulous island wedding! Congrats you two and here’s to a perfect life together!

Merry Merry! Christmas in Seattle

Signature Dinner at the Raisbeck Estate

I loved planning and designing this event for Grammy and Oscar winning composer Marvin Hamlisch’s visit to Seattle! I used champagne and gold lamour linens from BBJ with 150 delicate glass candle holders in various shapes and heights to accentuate the shimmer. The flowers were white with tulips, roses, freesia, wax flowers, lisianthus and wisteria. Pure glamour!

Mike and Christy’s Wedding

One of my very dear friends got married in September and asked me to design her wedding. Mike and Christy Cheever were married on the water at her parents’ house in Olympia. The morning of the wedding, we drove south in torrential rain, fingers crossed for some sun for the outdoor ceremony. By two o’clock the rain has stopped, the skies had cleared and the sun peeked through to provide a dramatic backdrop to a beautiful ceremony. Here are a smattering of pictures from the day…

Spring Recital Lunch March 08

This is an annual event to celebrate our endowment donors. The luncheon includes a private performance by Seattle Symphony musicians and is attended by 100+ people each year. Here are some pictures from this year’s lunch. As always, the decor budget was tiny so I asked friends to bring in lilacs from their gardens that day and arranged them that morning. The centerpiece flowers all came from Pike Place Market and included different varieties of tulips in purple, pink and green and fresh parsley (which also smelled fantastic!)

A friend in New Zealand just sent these pictures from their recent wedding reception held in a winery. I wanted to share them here to show that you don’t need a lot of money to put together a stunning event. I can’t wait to try a “light curtain” at one of my events…

in need of paparazzi…

I’m in the middle of planning our opening night gala at work and I’m in need of paparazzi. That’s right, fake photogs to heckle our guests as they arrive on the red carpet. Nothing speaks glamorous event like a guy in a tatty leather jacket yelling your name across the room. So where do you find such a thing? Well given our complete lack of funds, I think I am probably going to find some young, willing actors to play the part but turns out there are talent agencies that will rent out fake paparazzi by the hour. Makes you wonder about all those US Weekly magazine events doesn’t it?
